Description

This is a DDM-1 train, it was the first double-decker train in the Netherlands.
They're pushed/pulled by an engine from the 1600-1800 series (it's the same series, they re-numbered the 1600 ones into 1800) and the 1700 series when they were re-introduced as reserve trains.
It was common for carriges and engines to be switched around, but their makeup mostly remained the same.
There originally were 13 trains, each had the picture of an endangered animal species on the steering carrige as a collaboration with the WWF.
These trains are no longer in use, they were intended to be modernized, but that never happened. They exited service in august 2010, but were re-introduced as reserve trains and thus remained being used until april 2012. Currently they're still waiting for what their future might be
(probably scrapped, since the last of the engines wich are compatible with these carriges are due to leave active service somewhere in 2016).

A few hours after I wrote the above, I read they probably will be revising these trains, due to a shortage of rolling stock.
The first train has already been moved to the workshop to asess the state of the carriges. If they're good enough they will revise 11 out of the 13 trains, but they will form shorter trains.
It ends up they're good enough for a revision. After the revision and a new interor has been fitted the first one is scheduled to re-enter service at the end of 2015. They will now form trains with 1700 engines instead of 1800, since all 1800 wich were still owned by NS were scrapped in the spring and early summer of 2015. :(
Once the revision of the real thing is done you can expect a paper model for the revised version!
UPDATE: there are no major changes to the exterior of this train after revision. To assemble the revised version of the train, the order of carriges should be 1 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7. The revised trains actually use a 1700 engine, instead of a 1600/1800. A 1700-engine can be found  in these papercaft models: tim1995.deviantart.com/art/DD-… and: tim1995.deviantart.com/art/DD-…

The locomotive is from the 1600/1800 series (most of them were re-numbered, this one was re-numbered on 16 februari 1999)
Each locomotive from the 1600-series recieved a city's arms. This one recieved it's on 20 november 1985.
This engine was demolished in the days after 5 june 2015.

To assemble the train:
Print, cut glue, etc. like my other trains.
Assemble the engine the same way as with my other engines.
There's a choice in the steering-carrige's pantograph: up or down. The original trains didn't always have the one on the steering carrige up. Assemble so the > is pointing away from the cabin.

If you have the arrows on the carriges pointing the same way it's assembled correctly. The numbers indicate the order in wich the carriges should be in. The engine is to be put up against the side that doesn't have the steering carrige. The engine can be turned around to make the train 'drive' in the other direction.

The scale of the carriges is about 1:465 if you straigtforward copy-paste-print it.
If you enlarge the image so it's the same width as a sheet of A4 paper, it's about 1:350 (it won't be the full length of the A4 sheet)

This train was used and is owned by the NS (dutch railways).
